To Voice Mail or not to voice mail

I've gotten my phone service through my cable company now for over 2 years. I no longer have an answering machine, because the services offered on my cable phone were all included. Now voice mail will be offered for an additional charge. Since I'm an existing customer I get it at a reduced price (about half) of what new customers will get it at, but even still, should I have to pay $2 a month?

The letter states "This change reflects our increasing cost of delivering voice mail and the infrequency of its use among our customers."

The issue I have with this is that the phone is a cable phone, so it's a VOIP phone, which competes with Vonage. Vonage already charges only $24.99 a month and I pay $40 a month. Plus Vonage has voice mail included. So why should I pay an extra $2 for voice mail.

You know, now that I've enumerated the differences, why do I pay the extra $15 to use my cable phone. I think I'm going to look into Vonage.

Does anyone have an experience with Vonage?
