The Opal Deception is the worst book in the Artemis Fowl series thus far. The story seemed much less developed, and there were basically only 4 scenes, just told multiple times from different participants perspectives. That made the book feel boring and slow. The same information was presented time and again. Plus Artemis Fowl, boy genius is becoming more human and less boy genius. Part of what is exciting about Artemis is that he is almost above humans in his ability to think and act without emotion. Now he's becoming an emotional wreck.
I hope that his fictional puberty doesn't ruin him as a character. I already own the next Artemis Fowl book, which I will read, but if it's a continuation of the humanizing of Artemis Fowl, it will also be the last that I read.
